The McGill University Health Centre is one of Canada's leading health care organizations. It includes a network of five hospitals and is currently undergoing a major redevelopment project in the Montreal area. Evolving Web built a Drupal-powered website for the MUHC which features a flexible mini-site structure. This provides each hospital, research institute and suborganization with a presence on the site. The site also includes a great deal of dynamic content such as articles, audio, and video produced by the MUHC's communications department. This content is also organized into mini-sites which act as blogs or collections of content. The mini-site structure allows organizations within the MUHC to create and maintain their own dynamic content, as well as to publicize news and events.
In the process of migrating the website from the legacy CMS to Drupal, Evolving Web imported content from a variety of sources including MySQL and access databases and HTML pulled from the front-end of the site.
To navigate this vast amount of content, the site features an advanced search engine powered by Solr so users can easily filter through content. The search uses the Apache Solr AJAX module for Drupal, which Evolving Web has been developing for the past several months. The advanced search and the overall structure provided significant usability improvement which will help the MUHC communicate with both public and internal users.
