GTEC Conference in Ottawa

Oct 31, 2008 · by Suzanne Dergacheva

Evolving Web attended our first GTEC conference this week. It was a great chance to talk with other tech providers about the role small businesses plays in supporting the public service.

Systemscope's "Getting Your Website(s) Under Control" workshop highlighted the growing need government organizations have for CMS-based websites. It also recalled to us Jesse James Garrett's concept of web teams, an essential for website planning.

GTEC was a great opportunity to consider the role of open source content management in Ottawa. Government websites store a vast amount of bilingual content that needs to be accessible to government workers and the public at large. Drupal is moving in the direction of the semantic web, and Ottawa should consider how it can harness Drupal to organize and manage content to be more consistent and accessible across its large web infrastructure.
